Living with diabetes in Brighton and Hove?

NHS Brighton & Hove commission health services for people with diabetes locally and would like to capture the views of people living with diabetes aged 17+ through an online survey, which will ask questions about the diabetes care and information you have received, as well as how you would like services to be run in the future.

The Sussex Diabetes Gateway is committed to promoting full opportunities for people living with diabetes in and around Brighton and Hove and this survey gives you the opportunity to have your say about how you feel diabetes services should be delivered.

Obtaining information from as many people as possible is the best way NHS Brighton and Hove can get a complete and accurate picture of diabetes care in the area and how satisfied people are with their care. The information you provide will ensure that your experiences help to influence the future provision of diabetes services in city, and will be used to develop care pathways and to target resources to where they are most needed.

If you have attended any support events, either through the Sussex Diabetes Gateway or the Brighton Diabetes UK Voluntary Group, and have found these beneficial to your circumstances, please mention it as we feel that emotional support is of great importance to successful diabetes self-management.

18-30s Beach Volleyball

Self-proclaimed Team Girly-Slap ended up victorious over Team Blank-Look in the ultimate battle for volleyball glory! Or something…

Far from being pros, a group of 18-30 year-olds living with diabetes took to the courts at Yellowave to try out some beach volleyball, with the first hour being very much a warm-up round! Everyone seemed of equal level after overcoming the nerves and pre-match tension (!) so the competition was fair, healthy and most of all, fun. Nicole, 29, said “Playing volleyball was tons of fun and a great way to get to know the group better. And diabetes was hardly even mentioned. It was more like a bunch of friends getting together to have a laugh and I’d love to do it again before the end of the summer.”

Thanks to Zoe Marshall for booking the venue and providing photos and to everyone else who donated on the day. Our thanks also go to the people at Yellowave for their support and help on the day.
